A world full of NO!
Sep. 30th, 2006 04:41 pmHa. Ha ha ha. Ha. No.
So, who didn't see this coming, as soon as the advertizing department put a dent in Brad's armor? Sure, sure, LJ is a business, and they have to make money, and they deserve it for the work they do. I won't argue with that. Go put food on your table.
They've broken my trust, though. They lied. They promised permanent members, at the very least, that there would be no advertizing. Isn't that what people shell out money for? So that LJ will go on. Kudos to them for a good site.
This isn't the site we signed up for, folks. At least, I didn't. I found LJ in 2001 when Diaryland just wasn't doing it for me anymore. I've been here for 5 years. Maybe I'm an old grump. Maybe I have an overactive sense of entitlement, because I came here with promises of no advertizing, ever. Whatever it is, I'm just not happy with the implications of this newest development. I told them where to shove their corporate sponsored communities. I mean, think about it. What happens when there's a movie coming out named "Stardance" or something else that one of my friends has taken? "Twilight Spirit"? Are they going to take over your name? Are they going to offer your best friend some sort of compensation and then leave you reading a corporate account that you don't want anything to do with? The LJ team isn't answering...which leaves us to wonder. When a trademark is made of your LJ name, who are they going to support? The person who has had a free account for 5 years, or someone willing to pay thousands of dollars?
It's time to make noise, or get the hell out.
