I think...it's time to admit, as a writer, I have grown past the need for this. It became, for a couple of years, an excuse NOT to write the rest of the year.
With the new WoW expansion coming out, I'll admit I'm swayed by something shiny and new. I don't want to spend time writing when I've got a completely arbitrary deadline proposed by a site that promotes quantity over quality.
I'm past that.
It's time to take the next step in writing, and learn to polish my words. Not necessarily *as* I write them, though I love to do that as well, but afterward. I don't want to be so sick of sitting down at the computer that I don't want to look at what I've written after it's been put in words.
So it's time to set NaNoWriMo aside, the way I've largely set aside fanfic.
I'm ready for the new step on the journey.
I'll be getting back to writing Elemental some time next week. I'll be doing more "just for fun" writing on the side. I'll be going with where my muse is.
Somewhere along the line, I forgot the joy of writing. It's time to take that back.

Date: 2008-11-12 04:00 am (UTC)I, unfortunately, can't say the same. I love NaNo because at this point everyone around me knows I do it, so it's the only time I can shut myself up in my room and get everyone else to leave me alone long enough to actually do some writing. :P I figure...if I don't finish it, oh well! I just write and hope it comes somewhere near that word count at the end.
Everyone's writing style is different, though. What works for one person may not work for another. That's what gives us the diversity and differences between authors. :)
